We asked our guests to capture on film their favourite memories from their cruises and 2017 was a bumper year! The standard across all of our guests photos was fantastic and we thank each and every one of them for taking the time to send us their favourite images. There were so many wonderful photos which made it very hard to choose just one winner so we decided to judge the competition in three categories - Best Landscape Shot, Best Shot of the Boat and Best Wildlife Shot.
Our overall winner was Stuart Fletcher who took many evocative images but his shot of the Cuillins taken from the Glen Tarsan while on his private charter to Skye in August captured the eye of our judge, local photographer Derek Prescott. He liked the lovely light and said it was well composed making it his overall winner from 2017. Well done Stuart! Stuart won our hamper of locally produced goodies including Argyll Smokery's famous smoked prawns and smoked salmon and locally produced chutneys from Fyne Preserves. Stuart said he would be enjoying his hamper over Christmas with his family.
Our winner of Best Shot of the Boat goes to Heather Evans for her stunning photograph of Glen Massan cruising through the Caledonian Canal taken from the canal side while on her October 6-night Loch Ness and the Caledonian Canal trip. We liked the way the boat came out of the image giving a feel of being there. We also loved the Autumn colours coming through too. Well done Heather! As Heather is in Australia we couldn't send our hamper over to her due to the perishable produce so we had a personalised Majestic Line cheeseboard created as she had mentioned that the cheese platters were amazing in her questionnaire!
Our winner of Best Wildlife Shot went to Mr Val Llewellyn for his puffin with stick shot. This was chosen due to its sharpness and good colour and we liked the way the puffin drew the viewer into the picture. Val took this picture while on our 6-night Around Mull: Wildlife Explorer cruise in May. Well done Val! Val also wins a cheeseboard and it is on its way to Australia to be enjoyed by Val and Mary.
A special award also goes to Gay Bowie, who sent us this photo of a majestic wild horse taken on the island of Muck. This was taken while she walked the sandy beaches on her 10-night Idyllic Isles of the Outer Hebrides cruise aboard Glen Etive in July. This photo was shared 17 times on Facebook, had over 230 likes and reached about 6000 people! Well done Gay! She also wins a personalised cheeseboard to enjoy with Ian. We look forward to seeing Gay again this year and for more of her amazing photos.
