Protecting What We Love

The Majestic Line loves the west coast of Scotland, its seas and its coast. We believe in protecting what we love. All our staff and crew are committed to environmental sustainability, and we encourage everyone to apply sound sustainability practices at work, at home and within the wider community. We are committed to constantly monitor our policies on sustainable tourism and investigate further ways that we can minimise our impact on the environment.

Small Ship, Huge Difference

The Majestic Line’s human scale vessels, which can accommodate up to 12 guests and 4 crew members, are able to limit their impact on the seas and anchorages they visit. Keeping this sense of proportion is important is important as to not overwhelm the remote, sparsely populated regions we sail to.

All our crew are WiSe scheme trained to use the Marine Wildlife Watching Code and Best Practices Guidelines.

Plant Based Options

Vegetarian or vegan food will be available every day of your cruise, upon request. Prior to your trip, you will be asked to fill out a questionnaire that includes any dietary requirements you may have, or even dislikes, which will be catered to on board. The chef on your cruise will be aware of this information, and will be available to chat to you in person to make sure they cater as best as they can to your diet. Vegetarian and vegan meals will be planned and prepared with the same care and attention given to other diets.

Local Produce

Sourcing produce from local communities is at the heart of The Majestic Line’s purchasing policy. We aim to minimise our carbon footprint and source product and products from suppliers who share and demonstrate our environmental ambitions, and who operate in Oban, Mull, or on our cruising routes.

Our chefs have the liberty of choosing their producers and setting their menus, which are normally designed to showcase the best and freshest local & seasonal produce.

Local Economy

The Majestic Line is owned by Craig of Campbeltown Limited, a Scottish family-business specialising in public transport and local tourism, operating in the West of Scotland and the Scottish Borders.

How to be sustainable on a Majestic Line cruise

We invite out guests to follow in our footsteps & help reduce their impact on the environment whilst visiting us. Please consider adopting these measures as your travel and cruise with us.

Consider Using Public Transport

Travelling by bus or train not only benefits the environment, it can also be the most scenic way of travelling to your embarkation point. The train and bus journey from Glasgow to Oban takes approximately 3 hours, offering plenty of time to sit back, relax and enjoy the vista. If you choose to drive to Oban, Dunoon, Inverness or Kikwall and have at at the start or end of the cruise, then please consider leaving the car whilst you explore the local area using public transport.

Shop Local

Oban, Dunnon, Inverness and Kirkwall (our embarkation towns) and the many small communities and islands we visit on our cruises have amazing local gifts, arts and crafts, and local food and drink producers (some of which you will sample on our cruises). Please consider shopping at the local businesses to assist in supporting these wonderful communities.

Respect The Local Area & Nature

When ashore please dispose of litter respectfully. Follow the designated footpaths ashore and respect the surrounding islands and inlets, as this will help us to preserve the stunning landscape of our cruising area. For more information on how to enjoy the great Scottish outdoors, please visit Scottish Outdoor Access Code. Should you spot marine life, please tell our crew so they can add this to the Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust’s app, helping to assist in the knowledge and conservation of marine mammals and crustaceans.
