Skye and the Small Isles - Glen Etive

Doreen Thorogood

I joined our merry little band of 8 aboard the good ship Glen Etive on Saturday the 30th. What a warm welcome from skipper, Chris, Steward, Emma, Chef Eddie, and Engineer Kai. We were shown to our lovely cabins after a welcome drink and met up afterwards for the Skipper's chat. Unfortunately, due to the bad weather and for safety reasons, we were unable to make it up to Skye and the small Islands but we sailed to some beautiful spots and were able to admire the fantastic scenery and test our sea legs on the choppy water! Our group were so friendly and we had lots of laughs and made the best of the weather situation. Eddie, the chef is 5 star all the way! His food was out of this world - always beautifully presented and delicious, especially the biscuits and cakes he made every day - light as air!! He was also so kind to me as I have a fish allergy and he made sure I had the most delicious meals, sans fish! Chris, the skipper is so funny and he went out of his way to keep us entertained and tried to take us to the most scenic spots whilst always having our safety and comfort in mind. Emma, our steward was lovely. She worked so hard to make sure we had everything we needed and each night would set up the most beautiful table decorations - she was very bubbly and friendly and even showed us how to fold her intricate table napkins! She was always on hand to provide drinks or anything else we needed. Kai, the engineer was very sweet and skilfully docked the little tender at the dropping off points ashore and always gave a helping hand both on and off the boat. He also gave us a tour of the engine room and was busy making sure everything was in working order as well as being an important player when we were anchoring or departing a place. I had the most wonderful time. Being on the ocean and in the wild country was exhilarating and made twice as enjoyable by having such great travelling companions and a wonderful, friendly crew. Thank you all for some great memories.
